4. Giuseppe DiPaolo was born
on 27 Nov 1866 in Intradaqua, Italy.Guiseppi came to the USA in 1891. The last name as it
appears on the Citizenship Certificate appears to have been spelled DePaolo, however it is
spelled DiPaolo on the birth certificates of two of his children. When it was changed to
the present spelling is unknown. According to his son, John DePollo, upon arrival from
Italy his father was contacted by an agent of the Thomas Bank (Thomas, West Virginia). The
agent was in New York, NY recruiting workers for jobs at the coke ovens of Coketon, WV.
From 1891 until 1901 or 1902 Guiseppi made yearly trips back to Italy to visit his wife
and children. He brought them to the USA in 1902-03 and opened a general store in 1903.
The present building housing the store was built in 1915. During the nine month miners's
strike of 1920-21 he used miners to dig basements under the store buildings in exchange
for groceries. Guiseppi and another son, Anthony,
belonged to the "Sons of Italy" lodge in Thomas, WV.Guiseppi was granted his
Citizenship on 14 Jun 1904. He died on 21 Feb 1940 in Thomas, West Virginia. Guiseppi
DePaulo had a sister whose married name was Lucia Pavone.
He was married to Agnes Fulabella (daughter of Antonio Fulabella and Lucerchia Tedesco) in 1890 in Carpinoni, Italy. Agnes Fulabella was born on 1 Dec 1870 in Calabria, Italy. She died on 16 Jun 1939 in Thomas, West Virginia
